What Is a Flanging Machine?

A flanging machine forms a projecting rim or flange around the edge of a metal workpiece. During the spinning process, the cylindrical or conical component is clamped and rotated while one or more forming rollers progressively bend and shape its edge.

Unlike conventional pressing methods that may require dedicated dies for every product size, CNC flange spinning provides greater flexibility for producing different diameters and flange profiles. Product specifications can be changed by adjusting the fixture, forming rollers and CNC program.

Depending on the machine configuration, several operations may be completed in one clamping cycle, including:

BXFBX1400 Vertical CNC Flanging Machine

The vertical configuration is suitable for medium and large cylindrical components with diameters from 300 to 1400 mm. It uses three-station tooling and can perform flanging, beading, punching and trimming according to the selected tooling configuration.

Its vertical workpiece arrangement can simplify the positioning of selected cylindrical and conical components.

BXFBJ1600 Horizontal CNC Flanging Machine

The BXFBJ1600 is designed for cylindrical components with diameters up to 1600 mm and heights up to 1200 mm. It supports material thicknesses from 1.0 to 8.0 mm and flange widths from 15 to 100 mm.

The horizontal structure is suitable for relatively long air drums, ducts, pipe sections and fan housing components that require stable hydraulic clamping.

BXFJ3000II-IV Large-Diameter Flanging Machine

The BXFJ3000II-IV is intended for large workpieces with mouth diameters up to 3000 mm and material thicknesses up to 12 mm. It uses a dedicated dual-station spinning roller mount, centralized automatic machine lubrication and automatic spray lubrication during forming.

This model is suitable for heavy-duty applications such as large industrial fan housings, wide collector cones, tank components and large-diameter duct sections.


Processable Materials

Depending on workpiece dimensions and forming requirements, CNC flanging machines can be configured for materials such as:

Material strength, elongation, thickness and work-hardening characteristics should be evaluated before selecting the machine and tooling. Material grades with limited ductility may require a larger forming radius or multiple forming passes.

The correct machine should be selected according to the actual component rather than only the maximum diameter. Buyers should provide the following information:

For long cylindrical components, a horizontal machine may provide more convenient support and loading. A vertical machine can be considered for medium-diameter parts that are easier to position vertically. Components approaching 3000 mm in diameter or requiring thicker material capacity should be evaluated for a large-diameter heavy-duty machine.
